Interbranch Commission on Juvenile Justice

In August, the PA General Assembly, with the support of Governor Rendell and the Supreme Court, created the Interbranch Commission on Juvenile Justice to investigate circumstances that led to the corruption in Luzerne County. Representative Todd A. Eachus, Senator Lisa J. Baker, and Pennsylvania Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille worked together to create the Commission.

The commission has 11 members. Four members, including the chair, are appointed by the Chief Justice of Pennsylvania. Three are appointed by the Governor. Four are appointed by leaders of the House and Senate. The commission is authorized to conduct a noncriminal investigation, hold public hearings and, if necessary, to subpoena witnesses. It is required to file a final report to the Supreme Court, the Governor and the General Assembly by May 31, 2010. More about the Commission here.

We will report here on news from the Commission as it conducts hearings and, ultimately, issues its report.
